Bead Me Up

Yes, that bumper sticker says "Bead Me Up Intergalactic Bead Shows." Apparently there's enough people out there that like...beads to hold entire conventions. Not only that, but they theme them as well? So, it's not enough to hold just a bead convention - but it needs to be a SCI-FI bead convention!

Successful Marketing

11 Seven Eleven convenience stores were renovated into Kwik-E-Marts to promote the new Simpsons Movie. With one in neighboring Burbank, I had to partake in this once in a life time opportunity to tangibly experience one of America's biggest pop culture staples.

Besides selling various Simpsons paraphernalia, you were able to purchase (and consume!) Buzz cola, Krusty-Os cereal, and the iconic donuts that Homer's always chomping on. Conspicuously missing was Buzz Beer :(
I don't know if it was intentional or coincidence, but it was quite fun (and possibly racist) to see the employees were actually east Indian!

Follow the Black Rabbit

Ceramics are such an underrated medium in the modern art world.

Deep down, Beth Cavener Stichter's works are representations of the human psyche. I just stumbled across her page and I am awed by her work in the slight anthropomorphizing of the creature's sizes...as well as the deep expressions and beautiful darkness that all juxtapose so interestingly against the free-flowing form.

No One Wants to Play Sega with Harrison Ford

And other glorious paintings can be found at brandonbird.com
The combination of nerd/pop-culture with classical art styles are unbridled in their originality and hilariousness. These are some of my favorites:
  • Capt. Sisko in a flock of Geese - http://brandonbird.com/geese.html
  • Harrison Ford playing Magic the Gathering - http://brandonbird.com/ford_magic.html
  • Neo-classical portrayal of a Star Trek scene - http://brandonbird.com/jen_sisko.html
There's so many more...

Sheep

No, it's totally normal people would hang a giant poster of a sheep outside their window.

Crucified Spiderman

Nails in the hands, spear in the side, and...spray painted black? That's not Spiderman - it's Venom who died for our sins.

Conrete

Through the wall of a 2nd floor parking garage as I returned to my car from seeing Ratatouille. Throughout the rest of the evening I felt like I was on uppers for how happy the movie made me! On the other hand, it's mildly frightening the degree to which a film significantly effected my mental and emotional state. Awesome.

A House In A Nice Neighborhood

The Hills above Pasadena

Look down on this view. It was one of those warm summer evenings. Wide awake, I drove with the windows down up a narrow winding road. The wind hadn't cooled off all the way and blew comfortably through my hair. I just used my parking lights because the regular beams seemed insulting to the bright full moon, palely attempting to illuminate the land.
